The “Pastel painting” contest is a challenge for artists from around the world, who wish to present their art and skills on the VOUBS platform. Here you will find the right competitions for you, where you can participate and win great cash prizes.

We expect your best works

Pastels were used by artists during the Renaissance and gained considerable popularity during the 18th century, when a number of notable artists used them as a main material for painting.

Pastels are divided into 3 types – dry, oil and wax. In painting, the colors blend and produce beautiful effects. Their color effect is closer to natural dry pigments than any other process.

The surface of the pastel painting is fragile and easily smudged. Preservation of the work requires safety measures such as framing under glass. However, when done with permanent pigments and properly cared for, pastel paintings can endure unchanged for centuries.

Pastel color is applied directly on the paper, and is not pre-mixed as in other techniques. There are 2 main types of dry pastels: hard and soft. Ideal for drawing, they can be used for tone, fine lines and attention to detail.

When constructing a painting with dry or oil pastel, the rules used in other pictorial techniques should be followed. Works with pastels can be seen in most galleries around the world.

Pastel painting has its important place and for many famous artists it is a favorite technique for work. One of the famous authors of pastel paintings was Edgar Degas. Many of his works were created with dry pastel.
