3rd Stockport International Young Musicians Competition
01 Jun 2020 - 27 Mar 2021
A competition for musicians aged 17 to 24 on 27/03/2021. Initial entries by video recordings will be reduced to around 12 by a panel of professional musicians to take part in a live semi final on 20 February 2021. From there, three finalists will be selected to perform a full concerto to a public audience with Stockport Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the chair of the competition judges, Philip Ellis with a panel including competition patron, Jennifer Pike. The winner will receive a prize of £1000 and perform a further concerto with the orchestra the following season. The two runners up receive £300 each.
NOTE: Initial applications for the competition are online and so can be made in safety. If, as a result of the coronavirus crisis, it becomes necessary to cancel the event at any stage, or if a competitor is prevented from travelling to any live round, those remaining in the competition at that point who are affected will be refunded their entry fee.
closing date: 18 Oct 2020
The ultimate winner of the concerto final on 27 March will receive:
- a cash prize of 1300 USD
- the handsome SIYMC 2021 crystal trophy
- the opportunity to play a further concerto with the orchestra in the following season with expenses paid up to 392 USD
Each of our two runners-up receive a prize of 392 USD
We can't promise more but we can say that in addition to the valuable experience in preparing for and taking part in a competition with professional adjudicators at every stage, previous finalists and even a semi-finalist have been offered concerto performances as a result of their participation in SIYMC
