The 2018 Create the Future Design Contest is now open for submissions. The annual contest brings together engineers, entrepreneurs, and students to find solutions that benefit society and the economy. Now in its 15th year, the competition helped stimulate and reward engineering innovation and brought attention to thousands of product designs that increase the quality of life, improve healthcare, and help to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources. Contestants can enter for free, either as an individual or as a team. An independent panel of industry professionals will judge the entries. The deadline for submissions is July 2, 2018.
Grand Prize (1) $20,000 USD, provided by COMSOL and Mouser Electronics First Prize in Each Category (7) HP deskside workstation computer, courtesy of HP and Nvidia. The winner in the Robotics/Automation/Manufacturing category will also receive a copy of MapleSim modeling & simulation software from category sponsor Maplesoft ($5,000 value). Popular Vote Prizes (10) The Top Ten Most Popular Entries, as voted on by contest site visitors, will each receive Nanodots Magnetic Constructors from Nano Magnetics. These precision crafted Rare-Earth magnets, heralded as "Lego of the 21st Century," can be clicked, sculpted and combined in infinite ways. Top 100 Entries (100) Certificate of Achievement suitable for framing Winning entries will be featured in a special supplement to Tech Briefs magazine's November 2018 issue. The Medical Category winner will be spotlighted in the November 2018 issue of Medical Design Briefs magazine. Grand prize and category winners will be invited to a special awards reception and dinner in New York City on Friday, November 9. The sponsors reserve the right to exchange or replace prizes with others of equal value.
