Netflix not working on Android? – here is what to do
If you noticed Netflix not working on Android device with Smart DNS you should read the whole post. If you didn’t notice any problems, you should read it anyway. You might avoid them in days to come. Here is what is happening and why Netflix (we emphasize a word) might not work for you.

Netflix not working on Android with DNS service.
Most of people using Android devices set the setting in Google Store to auto-update the apps they have. This way you always have the latest software on your device. And in most cases this is good for you. But sometimes, it might also bring problems.

As you know Netflix tries to bring everyone the best service possible. So, everything has to work fast. No buffering, and all the information requested by customer should get to his/hers device as quickly as possible. This is why Netflix, started to hardcode (setting entered into code of application itself) DNS setting into their app. In this line of ideas Netflix app on Android is using Google DNS as main DNS. In general this is a smart move for most of customers who do not care about changing Netflix regions. Especially now with Netflix service (download here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/free-vpn-for-chrome-vpn-p/majdfhpaihoncoakbjgbdhglocklcgno) available almost anywhere. However it also has a down side.

If Google DNS is hardcoded in the app, it will use it regardless of the settings you actually have on the device itself. It simply means, that if you got Smart DNS setup on your Android, all apps apart from Netflix one will keep using it. Netflix however will use Google DNS. This is why for some of you reported – Netflix not working on Android.

Netflix not working on Android – are we all affected?
No. We suspect that Netflix is slowly realizing new builds with those changes made. They want to make sure it works as planned and will not create additional problems. Process started last year, even before Netflix expansion. Here is what to do if you are already affected by the issue and what to do to avoid it for as long as possible.

1. Turn of auto-updating. You simply do not want to risk, that with new update your Netflix app will suddenly stop working with Smart DNS.
2. If it happened already you need to bypass Google DNS on your router. You will find specific instructions for most popular routers in our Smart DNS Support Section.
3. Also you can delete the upgraded version of Netflix. Then download older one here, and install it.

If you’d run into any problems or would have any questions, feel free to ask our support team through live-chat or submit a ticket in client area. We will do our best to help. Anyway not all people are affected and we hope it will actually stay this way. It is possible that Netflix simply tests if such solution is actually a benefit for its users.
