The "dukit" tradition in Betis, Pampanga, Philippines is an age-old culture and industry of the town which believed to have its origins in the barrio of Sta. Ursula. Mr. Wilfredo Layug, a globally-renowned “matecanan mandukit” (master sculptor), and his son exhibited glimpses of the craft when my self-organized camera club visited their workplace and even shared to us stories of successes and struggles specially in the preservation of the heritage, now that the young people have less interest in learning the craft.
