Frank Lloyd Wright. The gold spire, adjacent to the central rotunda of the civic centre was designed to house a radio antenna and function as the boiler room chimney. Wright took the project on at age 90 and died before construction began but among its admirers were a young George Lucas who used it as a filming location for movie THX 1138 and used many of the design elements to create the structures on the planet Naboo in the Star Wars movies.

Benjamin Leonard   Lost a bit of text at the start of the description there and can't seem to edit! Should point out that this is the Marin County Civic Centre in San Rafael, California.
