Sankheda is a small town of Vadodara district in Gujarat, India. Sankheda Furniture is widely known throughout the world for its unique design and quality. These furniture are being produced by a handful of skilled craftsmen and their ancestors for the last 150 years. Now only about 100 families of ‘Kharadi-Suthar’ community are engaged in this unique craft. The craftsmen are so skilled that they use chisels and gouges freely to give symmetrical shape to each component without using any sorts of measuring device or marking. Even the colorful geometric and ornamental floral designs are painted freehand with precision effortlessly by these master craftsmen. Another uniqueness of Sankheda Furniture is that the finished individual components are assembled into a single piece of furniture with wood joinery method only. No nails or metal parts are used for these furniture.
