Aside from its obvious role in planetary ecology and the use as building material, wood - that is, trees - participate in other segments of human life. Even a palm that bears no edible fruit can be used to prepare mildly alcoholic beverage, toddy, by collecting and fermenting its sap. The photograph shows a palm sap collector working outside Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
