Before the colonization of the Spaniards in the Philippines, local living in Sagada, Mountain Province, Philippines don't bury their loved ones six feet under. Instead, they mummify them in fetal position and put them in a coffin made of pinewood. The coffins are then placed at the entrance of caves because they believe that the light will guide the souls to heaven. In this picture, a young lady pays respect to her ancestors buried in front of the cave.
