Scavenging is a source of income for most unskilled people in the developing countries. Manual scavenging is a term used mainly in India for the manual removal of untreated human excreta from bucket toilets or pit latrines by hand with buckets and shovels. This is Very much risky & most undesirable job. The common accidents reported included loss of consciousness and death by asphyxia resulting from the noxious gases in septic tanks and sewers, pit collapse or falling masonry, and wounds from sharp detritus.
