Stari Dvor

Stari Dvor is a representative building in Belgrade. the Palace, which was built by King Milan Obrenovic in the period 1881-1884, was the residence of King Petar I Karadjordjevic (period 1903-1921) and King Alexander I (1921-1922), and today is the seat of the Belgrade City Assembly.

It was built in the spirit of academicism and the Renaissance decoration designed by Aleksandar Bugarski. It is a representative building, which originally embellished with two large domes with gold crowns on top. However, since the former royal palace severely damaged in both World Wars, today's appearance differ somewhat from the original. Some parts of the palace were completely destroyed (for example the palace chapel) have changed beyond recognition (many stairs, throne room, etc.). In the socialist period, the main tower is adorned five-pointed star, which from 1996 to 1997 during a demonstration was replaced by a gilded double-headed eagle with spread wings, gift of Belgrade jewelers.

The Old Palace was the official royal residence, but the Palace is occasionally used for other purposes. So here in 1919 and 1920, held the Assembly of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The Old Palace was staged official receptions and other state functions.
Now it uses the Belgrade City Assembly.
