Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, has over a hundred kilometers of canals, about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges. The three main canals, Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht, were built in the 17th century in the Dutch Golden Age, a form of concentric belt around the city, known as Grachtengordel. Around the main canals are 1550 monumental buildings
