As the demand for rubber increases, the vast areas of tropical and subtropical rainforests of south east Asia and western Africa are decreasing in an alarming rate. The forests and even the protected areas areas are clearing for the monoculture rubber wood plantations. There is an estimation of 4- 8 million ha deforestation would happen within a decade. The rubber wood plantations destroy tropical biodiversity, change the soil structures, reduction in water system and the fertilisers used pollute the environment. Rubber wood plantations are becoming the main cause deforestation in these areas and are responsible for environmental changes.
