The photo was taken during a trip to lake Elton in the Caspian lowland in the South of Russia. Salt has been mined here for centuries. Salt crystals were lifted from the bottom of the lake and laid out for drying on wooden floorings. The bases of these floorings have survived to our days. Over the years, under the influence of salt, sun and wind, they turned into petrifactions. Wood resisted time and corrosion. Now these wooden stones resemble the crest of a mythical dragon.
